"ward 7"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

I was admitted to ward 7. After having gallbladder removed, I was appalled at the level of care from nursing staff, My drip was not attended to on the many occasions I buzzed. I waited 3 hours after asking numerous times for water, eventually I telephoned home for my family to bring water in. 5 times I had to remove cardboard urine containers from the toilet in order to use it. 7 hours they stayed un the toilet. However the doctors were excellent. I go to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee quite alot for operations, they are amazing ,ward 7 should be ashamed of themselves

Dear Mandy I am so sorry that this has been your experience on ward 7. It is never acceptable for a patient to leave one our hospitals feeling they have not received compassionate and dignified care. Thank you sharing this with us. There are a number of things in your post that concern me greatly and I want to act quickly to learn more about what exactly happened on the ward and what learning we may need to take from this. All feedback, good or bad, gives us the opportunity to improve so I would really welcome the chance to discuss this with you . If you feel this would be helpful, please contact me at Annie.laverty@northumbria-health.nhs.uk If the meantime, I will share your comments with the matron responsible for ward 7. I know she will be concerned by your comments and disappointed to hear that your care has fallen way below the high standards that are usually evident on ward 7 . Best Wishes Annie
