What I liked
I was a patient on the CDU department in May 2006, I had never been to a hospital for myself before and didn’t know what to expect. I was seen to and admitted straight away.
The doctors and nurses were very professional and caring. I expected to have to hang around for a couple of days for an operation but I was put on the emergency list of surgery and had it done that night. I was very impressed with this, as my case wasn’t really an emergency; I was just in quite a bit of pain.
I was very very impressed with the surgeon. When I awoke from the operation I was in no pain whatsoever and he had done a very good job! He was a plastic surgeon and now that the wound has healed there is only quite a small scar. He was very friendly, caring and funny (We joked about the abscess under my arm saying it was a third arm growing! lol).
The staff in all areas very very good, even the people who bring round the food, I was nil by mouth for over 24 hours and the lady who came to me gave me an extra large portion.
The ward I was on hadpatient rooms with their own on suet which I was very impressed with.
What could be improved
The was an clerical error made after I was been seen initally and before I was taken down to the ward who did not seem to know what they were doing, and I was left in an empty waiting room with my sister for over an hour in pain so bad I cried in the end. Before I came in the room I was told I was nill by mouth and they would give me somthing for the pain once I was on the ward. I was very unimpressed with this member of staff, however they were the only bad point in my experience with Wythenshawe hospital.
Oh the car parking fee's really need to go, hospitals really should not make money off people coming to see sick relatives!!!
