"Bad experience giving birth at Lewisham hospital."

About: University Hospital Lewisham / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Initially the staff seemed nice, but when it came to examining me to see how much I was dilated, the nurse was very rough with what ever instrument she was using. Also she had a disgusted look on her face because my mucus plug was making it hard for her to see, which is very unprofessional and I felt quiet embarrassed on top of in pain.

When it came to going into the birthing room, my midwife after introducing her self just sat in the room writing some papers. Not a word of comfort or conversation to relax me. While giving birth she gave me no constructive advice. All she kept saying is I was doing it wrong, and "that's not how you push". As this was my first pregnancy it was frustrating. At one point I made a bit of noise, as would be normal with most woman giving birth and she told me to stop it.

Also by this point, as I was giving birth 1 month premature, I has other midwives with me, and eventually they called a senior midwife, who was both professional and constructive.

Overall I would rather travel the extra 1 hour to get to a different hospital as I would never want to give birth in lewisham again .I feel some midwives were treating me badly either because I was young, or because I was a different ethnicity to them.
