"Kind and sociable at Wednesday's hospice sessions"

About: John Eastwood Hospice (inpatient)

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Long term conditions sessions (Wednesdays):

This experience at the hospice every Wednesday has changed my life. It is the best thing I have ever done. It has helped build my confidence and given me a new lease of life. My chronic health problems are still there but they have taken a back seat. I feel I manage to function and cope better.

I was mugged in December 2013 and this greatly set me back both physically and mentally. I was frightened to go out and stopped going to the Centre (a social centre with bingo, etc, every Tuesday and Wednesday). Attending the long term conditions sessions has really helped me tremendously. I have never met such kind, sociable and helpful people in a long time. I am very sad for it to end.

I will be encouraged to do more for myself at home, like potting herbs and plants.

I will also be exchanging telephone numbers with another lady who I have met at the hospice.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story.

Our Wednesday group was set up to provide people with chronic conditions with the confidence to take some control over their illness. I am so pleased you feel your confidence has been boosted particularly after such a traumatic event in your life and that you have made friends who you will continue to talk to outside of the hospice.

I will share your kind words with team that enables Wednesday to happen!
