"ENT Department"

About: Darent Valley Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

My GP composed a letter of referral early May 2014, which I was told was being sent to Queen Marys, Sidcup, but was inadvertently sent to Darent Valley Hospital and an appointment was made for September 2 2014.

After seeing my GP again, he revised the referral to include the problem could be in the middle ear or possibly the inner ear and was sent to Queen Marys, Sidcup.

Although a consultant approved of an appointment being made, the fact that an appointment had already been made at Darent Valley Hospital, the appointments staff chose to avoid any confliction and declined an appointment despite myself advising them of the revised referral.

I have since been told that the appointments are full at Queen Marys and that I should wait for the Darent Valley Hospital appointment to occur.

If this revised referral had been adhered to the eighteen week policy of the government, then perhaps all this confusion could have been avoided.

Thank you for your recent feedback following your disappointment with the lack of clarity and acknowledgement over the preferred choice of hospital for your appointment and the revised referral which appears to have been declined.

I can only apologise for the confusion and hope that the appointment goes well at Darent Hospital.

If you would like to discuss this further in relation to ENT provision at Darent Hospital or Medway hospital then please contact Benn Best, Operational Manager telephone 01634 830000 ex 8941
