What could be improved
With matters of such importance as eye sight. A clearer proceedure would benefit the patient, if told in advance by the Optician about referal letters. However in this case I guess the Optician felt this case too urgent to waste time with a letter.
Anything else?
Having been told by my Optician, that my eye was bleeding internally, and the pressure was off the scale, I was told that I must asked to be refered to an Opthelmic Surgeon, as my retina had detached, and there was a possibility that the Optic Nerve was dangerously close to detaching. This requst was acknowleged, whilst i waited 1 1/2 hours. when i was seen,I was told that they couldn't see what was wrong, as my eye was full of blood. I was then asked, did it hurt, and was it getting any worse? I replied I didn't know. I was then refused a referal, until I went away to my GP, and got a referal letter.(By now A&E was full). Fearing how long all this would take I went to the Nuffield Hospital, where I was seen in 20 minutes, and later on, operated on to repair my retina. Whilst my sight was restored, I lost 30% of my periferal vision permenantly.
