I was recently at your hospital after suffering the effects from a stroke i had in 2004 - at that time i was in Manchester Royal Infirmary for eight weeks, was discharged with no further assistance.

Subsequently i was in tameside just before christmas as well. The last time i was at your hospital which was about a week ago i saw two doctors who said it was stroke after effects ,and that i need care in the community and said i should not be living on my own.

They were waiting for someone to come from the stroke unit to speak to me,but that never happened because we just got moved from cubicle to cubicle,and at one point they forgot i was there.

Thank you for submitting your comments about our services. When a referral is made from a ward area to the stroke team enacts a review either by the consultant or the stroke co-ordinator. A transfer from one area to another should not prevent this from happening. I am sorry this did not occur in your case.

The Trust has recently opened an acute stroke unit (10/12/07) to which all patients who are admitted with a suspected stroke are transferred. This will ensure that an assessment will be performed by a specialist Multidisciplinary team. Patients who require a period of stroke rehabilitation can benefits from a new unit established within the community (lakes nursing home) with a workforce trained in stroke rehabilitation.

I am sorry not to have responded sooner. However, Tameside General Hospital has only recently obtained the facility to reply to comments made on this website
