"Deben Ward / Maternity services"

About: Ipswich Hospital

I was admitted onto Deben ward on 25th April this year at 22 weeks and 6 days pregnant, after developing an infection as a result of my waters breaking 4 weeks previously. It was sadly inevitably that I would deliver a little girl who was too premature to survive and who passed away shortly after birth. As you can imagine this was a devastating event, however the care I received afterwards was amazing, and certainly helped us in coming to terms with what had happened. I was able to stay in a family room with my baby, whilst the midwife helped create memories of our daughter that we will always treasure, photos were taken, foot and handprints taken as well as a plaster mould of our precious little girls tiny hands and feet. Deben is a very busy delivery ward, managing ladies with high risk pregnancies and yet staff dedicated so much time to my family and really supported us through the whole process. In addition I should also thank the staff on Stour ward, the Antenatal team on the day unit, especially the midwife, also the consultant and the other doctors I encountered for their fantastic care during my pregnancy.
