I am writing this review for so many reasons and will also be sharing my thoughts with various other sites including the media. I came to St Thomas last Friday for open hernia repair surgery. I am pleased that the surgery went well and I was able to go home the same day. I had been fortunate to have never had surgery before nor am I someone who takes medication, so I was nervous about the physical implicatilns of the surgery as well as the effects of the anaesthetic. From the time my mother and I came into the hospital until we left we were both treated with a level of care, warmth, dignity and respect that one hopes for and deserves, yet does not so often get. All staff were so patient and accomodating, with care that was so genuine and respectful. While all were amazing I have to thank the nurse for her amazing patience and care. I must add that all staff were amazing. My surgeons and the staff who were working with that patient list who would have helped take care of my mother and I, this thanks is for them. There is no way to measure what a difference this kind of care makes as an addition to the excellent clinical care I received and it is so important to feed this back. I would like whichever clinical and/or non clinical managers to know that this level of care is possible and so important to the patient experience. I feel so strongly about this as I am so proud of the NHS and so very appreciative of the care I received. A very large, warm thank you.
