"WARD 7"

About: South Tyneside District Hospital

My father was recently a patient on ward 7 after suffering a broken hip following a fall at home. myself and my family were obviously very concerned about our dear dad having to be admitted to hospital and having to have an operation, not only is my father elderly but he has very severe dementia. from the moment he arrived on the ward the staff put my family at ease and it was obvious from the outset that the staff on ward seven have a vast amount of experience in dealing with dementia sufferers. as a family we were very impressed in the way the nurses and doctors worked as a team. The nurses all have brilliant communication skills and updated us at every available opportunity. My father was comfortable through out his stay on ward 7 and i cannot speak more highly of the ward. I must say that whilst visiting my father the way in which visitors/patients speak to the nursing staff can be shocking! i can not believe people would speak to such caring nurses in such a manner! those poor nurses were rushed off their feet trying to do the best that they can for the people they are looking after and it appears unfortunately that some members of the public do not apprcieate the care that the staff on the ward give to everyone. nursing certainly is a vocation and i am not sure i would be able to deliver the high standard of care that the nurses on ward 7 do with a smile on my face! Thanks once again to all the staff on ward 7 for the care and support you have given my family. i can not fault any aspect of my fathers care/stay on your ward keep up the good work

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on the NHS Choices website regarding your father’s recent care whilst he was a patient on Ward 7 within South Tyneside District Hospital. It is always lovely to receive such kind and appreciative feedback from patients and relatives. We always strive to deliver the highest possible standard of care to our patients and make every effort to ensure we communicate appropriately and effectively with relatives and carers as well as the patients themselves and it is very reassuring to receive feedback such as yours. I do hope your father is able to make a good recovery from his operation and I will ensure your comments are forwarded to the ward staff and relevant managers. Kind regards Lorraine B Lambert Chief Executive
