I was invited to take part in the bowel screening programme aimed at 55 year old ( trial programme ) as part of the early detection of bowel screening. What a fabulous service. The named nurse provide an extremely comprehensive explanation of the trial and what to expect as part of the examination including full medical history and screening. Everyone involved introduced themselves and explained their role , I was treated with dignity and respect at all times . The actual examination was not as bad as I imagined and this is very much attributed to the professionalism of the staff undertaking the procedure , they explained every part of the examination and put you very much as ease. This is a really well managed nurse led service offering a fabulous service. I really hope the bowel screening programme eventually becomes part of main stream services as it is really valuable service to enable early detection / prevention of bowel cancer.
