"Management of stroke"

I wanted to write record my appreciation and thanks for the care I received. I consider I had world class service for the management of my stroke. In the less than 4 hours I was in A+E I was seen twice by a stroke consultant. They arranged a brain CT and chest X-ray. I discussed these results and treatment options with the consultant, and I was admitted to the stroke unit on Howard ward. Within 30 minutes I had had a carotid Doppler showing an obstructed right carotid. Within an hour I was having a brain MRI and MR angiography confirming a right carotid obstruction and a stroke in the right middle cerebral artery area. I was rapidly started on a heparin infusion. Further investigations have confirmed a carotid artery dissection completely occluding the right carotid. I stayed on the ward for 7 days during which I received excellent care from the whole team from the cleaning staff through to the nursing and medical teams. I have been discharged with a proper plan for ongoing care. I am not right but I am back home, walking and talking. I was most impressed by the organised care I received which has basically saved my brain from further damage and given me a chance for the future and wanted to share my appreciation for this service.
