"A Good Alround Experience"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

I was taken by ambulance to A&E in the early hours of Saturday morning. Upon Arrival in A&E I was taken care of with great dignity & Care from the Nurses & the Doctor I saw there. I was kept informed all the way through the process. I was informed that the surgical team wanted to see me on the ward and before long I was taken from A&E to the ward. I went straight onto A6 and was given a bed immediately. My time on this ward was on a whole a good experience. The nurses and staff were always busy but they made sure that I kept on top of my pain. They did all the investigations they needed to and found out I had Gallstones, so I cannot fault them there. The attitudes of the staff on the ward changed upon them knowing that I was being sent home. I woke up at 6:30am for my observations to be taken and the nurse asked if I was in pain. I said yes and was offered my usual pain relief. I was then not offered any on any later rounds by the nurses, even though on previous days if I was still in paid they would offer me something to top the pain relief. I had to ring the bell 3 times to ask for pain relief and then I was told they couldn't give me anything as my card had gone down to pharmacy. I informed them I could not wait any longer and they sent someone down for the card, so I could get pain relief. I took this immediately but it only took the top of the pain away. I then was approached by my nurse saying that they had lost my medication and started searching my bags and everything. By this time all I wanted to do was get home. It took them until around 5:30pm to bring my medication and go through everything with me on my discharge. I was so relieved to finally get home The final day in there spoilt the whole experience in there for me,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on the NHS Choices Website. Your compliments will be forwarded to the staff in the Emergency Department, who I know are always appreciative when a patient gives such positive feedback. We are grateful to you for sharing your experience of Ward A6 and we are pleased to hear that on the whole your experience was a good one. However, in order to investigate your concerns we would encourage you to contact the Patient Experience Team on 0161 291 5600 or via email at pls@uhsm.nhs.uk Kind regards The Patient Experience Department
