"Lack of communication and no responsibility taken for my care"

I have a severe hormone problem, the treatment of which puts me at higher risk of womb cancer, etc. Cancer runs strongly in the family. When I began having unusual symptoms, this obviously worried my family and I very much.

Because a specialist in my hormone problem is involved in my care, no medical professionals locally will take responsibility for any emergency with my symptoms that are progressively getting worse and are all warning signs for further investigation. My local hospital has a policy of not liaising with other hospitals, meaning I have to show consultants on the gynaecology ward the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Guidelines on my condition every single time I am admitted.

On my last admission, I was told I needed an urgent gynaecology referral upon discharge. Several weeks later, a letter finally reaches my GP saying not to give me the referral because I see a specific hormone specialist in a city two and a half hours away. I only found this out by spending the afternoon on the phone to the hospital. My requests for an MRI, for a smear test, for a hysteroscopy, for any other test apart from an ultrasound (which have had differing results ) are consistently denied. Yet no professional I've seen has told me I have nothing to worry about either. They know I am having unusual heavy bleeding, severe pain, swelling, sickness, etc. but make no move to investigate it.

My family and I are extremely angry and concerned. The combination of worsening symptoms, strong family history and clear, medical heightened risk of gynaecological cancer seems to be being ignored. I've resorted to making my story public to highlight the appalling lack of communication and apparent abandonment of duty of care in the hope that someone will sit up and take notice.

I would like to thank the nurses particularly on Oken Ward for being so kind, supportive and trying to communicate my concerns to the doctors during my admissions. They made me feel listened to and cared for, which I haven't yet experienced from anyone else.
