"After having to visit the hospital ..."

About: Cheltenham General Hospital

(as a relative),

What could be improved

After having to visit the hospital with a relative to have xrays taken, and sitting just inside the door of the xray reception I was suprised to note that over a period of approx 30 minutes not a single person took any notice of the (difficult to see, on the floor!) request to use hand cleaner before entering. This included doctors, porters etc as well as patients. If even hospital staff are ignoring these basic anti infection measures how are Glos hospitals expecting to clear up their fairly dismal infection rates?

Many thanks for your comments.

The Trust takes very seriously its responsibility to control and prevent infections. The 'Clean Your Hands' campaign, part of which are the floor stickers you saw, has been on-going for several years and has resulted in a far better awareness of the need to clean our hands, using either hot water and soap or hand jels, when entering and leaving a ward. Having said that, we are concerned to hear your experiences, and your comments have been passed to the department concerned and to the Infection Control Team to follow up.
