"Breathtaking incompetence"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

I have just returned from Leicester Royal Infirmary where I went for a bone scan this morning in The Sandringham Building. Despite being asked my name, address and date of birth on two occasions, I was put through the wrong scanner. This meant a half hour lying perfectly still in extreme pain followed by another half hour lying perfectly still in extreme pain. It was an very distressing experience. I naively thought there would be checks and double checks to make sure the patient was matched to the correct procedure. Breathtaking incompetence. Clearly things have not improved since my terrifying stay on the neurology ward at LRI in July 2012, despite assurances to the contrary from the management team following an official complaint at the time. It is very worrying to know that you are not in safe hands at LRI.

Dear Reviewer Thank you for your comments. Being put through the wrong scanner absolutely should not happen. We are sorry to learn of this, especially given your previous experience of the Royal. We would very much like to look into this further, so that it doesn’t happen again. Please email communications@uhl-tr.nhs.uk with as much information as you can, such as your name, address, date of birth, along with the name of your consultant. Should you visit the Royal again, we hope you have much more positive experience. Sincerely Communications Team Leicester’s Hospitals
