"Care and Compassion Lacking"

About: St Helier Hospital

My mother was admitted to a very busy A&E on a Sunday night recently with a blocked catheter. Nursing staff were as attentive as they could be at a very busy time, while she was waiting to be seen by a doctor. However, where was the care and compassion when she was sent home on Monday in urine soaked clothing on the hospital transport (no-one had been informed she was coming back or a family member would have collected her, despite the fact that we were preoccupied with getting my father to St Georges for surgery at the time) ???

We are very sorry to hear that this was your experience at our hospitals. Maintaining the dignity of our patients at all times throughout their visit at our hospitals is something we regard as being of the utmost importance. I would therefore like to look into this matter further, and would ask you to please escalate the issue and provide more details by contacting our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 020 8294 2508 or email pals@esth.nhs.uk.
