"Heart valve repair at Leeds General Infirmary"

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I was in hospital for a heart valve repair. The operation was a success but I contracted MRSA whilst on the ward.

I was in isolation for 6-7 weeks whilst the staff dealt with the infection, which was in the wound and bloodstream. They all worked very hard to get me back to good health. The nursing staff, surgeons and other staff (especially catering) were all excellent - no faults at all.

I was unfortunate but perhaps the cleanliness could have been better. Also, the number of visitors was not limited to 3 per patient, especially with regards to young children, who did not confine themselves to the bedside of their relatives.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at the Leeds General Infirmary. I am sorry to hear that you became ill whilst in hospital.

I shall pass your comments on to the Patient Relations Manager at the hospital.
