I am 14 weeks pregnant and suffered a very heavy bleed, I immediately phoned my midwife who told me to go straight to A&E. Once at the hospital I was made to wait standing up as there were no seats in a very busy waiting area, at this point I was still bleeding and becoming very distressed, after an hour and half of waiting and not been seen to my husband asked reception when I would be seen to as our situation was very serious compared to some of the people who were been seen with twisted ankles and sore wrists, the reply he got was that treatment did not go in order of priority and that we had ONLY been waiting an hour and a half. The receptionist showed no compassion or concern for us. After another hour of waiting, whilst still bleeding and been left to cry on a hospital floor with no privacy after begging to be seen I was finally seen by a nurse for a maximum of 5 minutes who took my temperature and blood pressure and sent me to another department ( the green area). As soon as another nurse saw my distress and realized how serious my situation was he immediately saw too it that I was seen to straight away, was given privacy and explained and reassured both me and my husband . After been in the hospital for almost 6 hours I was finally sent home. I was absolutely disgusted in the lack of compassion shown in the A&E area and how long me and my husband were made to wait, it made an horrific situation so much worse for us.
"A disgrace"
