"Dunkery Stroke Ward"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Accident and emergency Musgrove Park Hospital / Neurology

(as a relative),

My 91 year old mother was admitted last November as an emergency and the Emergency Room staff were superb. Initially her stay on Dunkery was fine and we were impressed. However, this was short-lived. While the therapists were caring and attentive, some nurses were almost dismissive and lazy. There was little or no help with eating/drinking and I was told that my mother was incontinent, which proved to be totally false - it was just easier to stick a nappy on he than have to answer a bell! There was also a complete lack of communication with relatives, with doctors and nurses talking only to the patients, many of whom were unable to understand or respond. We were told that we had to make an appointment to see a consultant, which we did, only to be kept waiting for over two hours without any communication or explanation. I have waited over 6 months before telling this story - just to let the anger subside.
