"Very Bad"

About: Warrington Hospital

In 2012 I started having problems with my legs, lower half, I visited this hospital 4 times that year, the first doctor I seen diagnosed the condition with something I cannot now remember and he gave me some antibiotics, which did not work, and the diagnose he gave was incorrect, the second time I seen a doctor he told me the antibiotics I was given before was no good for the condition in my legs, he gave different antibiotics, no correct diagnose was given, I also asked, why it had gone into my other leg, and he just waved his arms, as he did not know, on the 3rd visit was to A&E, a nurse said they were on the mend my legs, and this is for sick people, she then sent me further down the corridor, for another long wait, I had a word with a nice man, and explained I was diabetic, and had already been there a long time, he got me with a doctor, again he did not know what was wrong, then eventually I had water blisters on my legs, and on the right leg they bursted, and fluid was coming out, an ambulance took me to A&E, again I was not diagnosed with what was wrong with my legs, and was given a lot of antibiotics, I then went back to my GP, who got another Doctor to see me, and he then confirmed I had Lipodermatosclerosis, both lower legs, all of this had gone on for about 5 months, and because it was not correctly diagnosed, and treated sooner, it has damaged the skin on both legs, but my left leg the worse, my skin is so damaged, it just peels off very easy, I was given compression stockings to wear, and this controls the condition. I am diabetic type 2, this condition is not caused by my diabetes, but for many years, I successfully controlled it by diet, but since my diabetes has gone bad, and I think all this stress of not being diagnosed and treated proper quicker, has not helped my diabetes. So thanks to the NHS, I am left with badly damaged skin, if I had been diagnosed and treated with the compression stockings sooner, less damage would have been done, and I would be in a lot less pain.

Sorry to hear about this, it sounds like a very complex condition that you have had which can be difficult to talk about online but if you wanted us to take a look at the care you received then please contact us at pals@whh.nhs.uk and we can do that for you.
