"Becoming Very Frustrated With The Eye Hospital"

About: Bristol Eye Hospital

I suffer with a degenerative condition and was diagnosed over ten years ago. The first diagnosis left me with so many unanswered questions and the instruction that I couldn't drive. No support given to a 17 year old who has been told she will go blind. After years of no check up I finally ask for an appointment a few years ago and the consultant is amazed nobody has told me about registering as blind. Each and every year I ask to hae an annual appointment Nd each time this doesn't happen and I have to go back to my GP for a referral. Feel very alone.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comment on NHS Choices. We are sorry to hear that you feel so unsupported in respect of your condition and care, and would very much like to help you resolve this. We have a process in place where all patients in your situation are introduced to our Eye Clinic Liaison Officer, Laura, who can also register patients as being blind. If you could contact our Patient Support and Complaints Team (0117 342 3604 / or email pals@uhbristol.nhs.uk) then they will be able to signpost you to this service. If you feel that you have lots of questions that you would like to discuss with a specialist, then we would be more than happy to see you again at the Bristol Eye Hospital - your GP should be able to refer you back in to us for an appointment. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to hear from you soon.
