"Decompression of carpal tunnel- discharge advice"

About: NHS Solihull CCG

(as the patient),

The operation went well, and I am pleased with the result.

The surgeon told me to arrange to see the GP practice nurse in 2 weeks time to have the stitches out.

My wife read the discharge advice leaflet which says 'leave your dressing on until you return to have your stitches removed (in about 1 weeks time).

To clarify the matter we tried to telephone the hospital on the numbers provided, but despite many attempts we were unable to get through.

I arranged to see the practice nurse 1 week after the operation ( in case I had misheard the surgeon), but the sealed letter I passed on to the nurse stated that the stitches should be removed after 2 weeks. This was therefore a waste of her time and mine.

I trust that you will change the discharge advice leaflet as necessary and improve the telephone answering service.
