"Broken Leg"

About: Northern General Hospital / Accident and emergency Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

I broken my leg diving into a river to save my Pomeranian from drowning! I jumped from a 10 foot wall after she had jumped in trying to chase a duck or something that attracted her attention! As I could not see her in the water I jumped in but I didn't realise the water was so shallow and smashed my 'tib and fib'. She was near the wall, out of site from above, clearly distressed and trying to claw her way up the wall. She came out of the water without a scratch, I on the other had was in agony. I had to hoist myself up a ladder provided with my broken leg!

The ambulance arrived in no time and both paramedics were incredibly comforting and stopped me from having too much of a panic attack. They were amazing and cracked a few jokes which took my mind off the pain, I wish I could have thanked them properly.

The staff in the emergency ward were also incredible, I was seen straight away and there was hardly any waiting time whatsoever. Again they were very comforting about the situation but also honest. I felt very secure in their hands.

When I was transferred to the ward all the staff were fantastic, they were very friendly and assisted to all of my needs This included all of the physio staff that I also had to see.

Dear Pipkins

Thank you very much for this positive feedback about the care provided by our staff. We can certainly give you the opportunity to send your thanks directly to the clinicians involved. If you could email patient.relations@yas.nhs.uk with your name and the date and time of your accident we could trace the crew. They would receive a copy of your thank you note as well as a commendation letter.

Wishing you all the best and safe dog walking in future.
