"Stroke Service"

About: Cheltenham General Hospital

On the 7th May 2014 my husband suffered a stroke at home totally out of the blue. Right from the time I dialled 999 the service was excellent. The chap on the phone when dialling 999 was very calming and stayed with me right up until the Paramedic arrived. The Paramedic arrived within 7 minutes and the ambulance was straight behind. The service they gave my husband was brilliant. On arriving at A & E they were waiting fro him and he was rushed straight in for a CAT scan and back onto A & E within minutes. My husband was dealt with, with dignity and calmness with everything being explained thoroughly to us both. He was very fortunate to be in hospital with 1 hour of having the stroke and therefore was able to be Thrombolised which was like a miracle. He was eventually transferred up to Ward 6b where the service he received from the specialist stroke nurses down to the cleaners and tea makers was wonderful. After 6 days he was well enough to leave and come home. At 9.30 am the next morning the Physiotherapist was at the door to start his exercises. We could not fault the service we have received from everyone involved. Please pass on our thanks to all of the departments concerned. We are very thankful to have a brilliant NHS which is there when you need it. Fortunately it looks like he will make a full recovery which is the best outcome you could wish for.

Hi there, Thank you very much for taking the time to share this feedback with us. It's good to hear you and your husband had such a positive experience of our services at what must have been a very difficult and stressful time for you both. We will pass on your comments to the teams involved in your husband's care and are pleased to hear that he is recovering well. Best wishes The team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
