Airedale took great care of me after I was admitted for emergency surgery with a perforated bowel. I was particularly grateful, as I was a long way from my home in London when I was taken ill suddenly, visiting family in Yorkshire. I was in a lot of pain and distress at the time, but felt reassured that everyone - from the ambulance crews to the A&E team - was doing the very best for me and that I was always in safe hands. Special thanks to the surgery team for all their work and dedication, and for being so positive and inspiring with their care. I'd also like to pass on my gratitude to the intensive care nurses - unfaltering support provided with real warmth and understanding. Those little acts of kindness - like taking the straw from my tea so I could enjoy my first sip straight from the china cup, and contacting the dietician to help get my weight back on track - meant such a lot to me. I'm also very grateful for the help I received from the stoma, physio and dietician teams at Airedale, which have really helped me on the road to recovery. I was in capable hands of ward 14 after my operation - and every one of the team treated me with kindness, respect and a high level of care. I feel very grateful and quite humbled by my experience at Airedale. So many good people coming together to care for me when I was in real need. Yorkshire at its best.
