I attended the hospital to have some blood zsamples taken on 9th June I am a colitis patient under the care of the gastroenreology team and the IBD nurse.I had an appointment at her clinic on the 11th however I was in so much pain I decided to see if I could see her whilst at the hospital. A student nurse who had been present at m,y last appointment recognised me and asked if she could help, she spoke to a clreical worker who said she would see if she could find the nurse for me: within a very few minutes she appeared took one look at my leg and said she would find a doctor to come and see me,, very shortly a young doctor came into the Gastro clinic and agreed with them I ought to attend AMU. She walked myself and husband across to AMU (all this in what ought to have been her lunchtime) she explained the situation to a nurse then returned to her own tasks. Just a few more people to mention I was seen by a doctor and after a fairly long wait another more senior doctor who agreed with the first one I had a DVT I was then given a warfarin injection and told to return next morning for a scan.The nurse then 'phoned me next morning to see how I was. The scan was negative and I returned to AMU where I was seen very shortly by the doctor, she asked colleague to take a look at my leg but he could not diagnose the problem either whereupon I became upset and asked that they just gave me something for the pain, the doctor prescribed something and the colleague went and got the prescription printed meantime the doctor made me an appointment for 12th June with another consultant, who after being called in by his junior diagnosed me in a very few minutes and I have a foll.ow up appoinment on 10th July As you will have gathered I cannot praise the staff off the gastro unit and all the related medical people inthe AMU not forgetting the nursing staff of the unit and ayoung volunteer on reception who escorted me and my bag and files to the Xray dept.Cannt praise the RLH highly enough that must be why it has such agood rating on the gastro websites.
