"Operation at DCH"

About: Dorset County Hospital

I came into DCH to have my gallbladder removed on Thursday. It was the first time I had ever had an operation and the vast majority if staff were absolutely fantastic. The only two negative comments that I would make was that the first pre-admission nurse I saw was not overly friendly. He dealt with the situation efficiently, but didn't necessarily put me at ease. The other negative is that not once did I see the consultant who carried out my operation. I understand that he is busy, but it would have been nice to meet the person who would be in charge of the operation. My anaesthetist and the the team in recovery were absolutely outstanding. They were so very helpful and reassuring and really couldn't have done anything to make me feel more at ease. For that I am very very grateful.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the care and service you received last week. I am delighted to read that overall it was a positive experience. I am sorry however that the nurse in pre-assessment didn't put you at your ease as this is so very important before surgery, also that you didn't have the opportunity to meet your surgeon, both are unusual and I can only apologise that we fell short on our care for you. I do hope you are recovering well from your surgery and thank you once again for sharing your experience. Kind regards Alison Tong, Director of Nursing, Dorset County Hospital
