"Still waiting for operation after almost 6 months."

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

Referred by GP for surgical operation to removealmost 5 inches in diameter cyst on back in December 2013. Got appoint to see doctor in end of March and still waiting for operation date. Already had pre-operation assessment. Called clinic many times but got no satisfactory response. Just " You will receive a letter about operation date. We have a very long general waiting list and another daily emergency waiting list so cant tell you about operation date No tests have been done whether cyst is malignant or not. I don't know how one with pain can survive 6 months without knowing what he is carrying in his body. You can't sleep, sit, or travel. NHS promises for traetment within maximum of 18 weeks: five months whether you survive to see your treatment day or not. Now it has been more than 18 weeks. Worst than third world treatment in heart of first world!!

We are very sorry to receive your comments and concerns via the NHS Choices and Patient Opinion website regarding your prolonged wait for surgery at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. Unfortunately, patients requiring non-emergency surgery can unfortunately wait up to and occasionally more than 18 weeks for a procedure. However, it is very difficult to respond to the specific concerns you have raised without being able to investigate your case in more detail. We take all issues surrounding patient care very seriously and would very much like to hear from you directly about this. If you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk they will be happy to discuss this with you.
