"Excellent Antenatal and Labour Medical Attention"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

I cannot thank Stepping Hill Hospital's maternity services enough I have had two relatively difficult births at the hospital (I had Preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome with my first daughter Sept 2011 resulting in an emergency c section delivering my baby 6 weeks early and my second daughter became stuck resulting in an assisted delivery, March 2014). The medical attention and delivery in an emergency situation is excellent and I would not want to be anywhere else. All the staff I encountered during and after my deliveries were amazing and I could not ask for any more. I did not realise until after how at risk I was with my first daughter but the medical staff gave me their undivided attention as soon as I was admitted as an emergency. Due to the early delivery of my first daughter she spent 3 weeks on the neonatal unit and I cannot fault the care and attention that we were both given on this unit which was outstanding. I cannot express or put into words how grateful I am nor t thank the medical team enough for their swift, caring and professional medical attention. The only slight improvement I would suggest is the postnatal care (the antenatal, labour and delivery care is outstanding) could be slightly improved however, for me it paled into insignificance due to me and my babies getting through the whole experience safely. From my experience the shared ward ladies facilities (3 in total) had blood in them for a significant period of time (from early evening until the next morning all 3 facilities) and I feel that all toilet/shower facilities would benefit from more regular inspection (staff and budget depending). To be fair, following my stay in hospital I have read the policy and it does state that you should report hygiene issues but I was aware that the midwives were stretched as it was and I did not want to bother them further over general assistant/cleaner concerns and I valued their medical attention instead. I feel regular general assistant inspection would resolve this issue as the midwives have enough to deal with and I think are outstanding. I cannot thank Stepping Hill enough and I would highly recommend this to other expectant mums.
