My 84 year old father was admitted to Ward 27 one Sunday in June, via A/E, for an unspecified infection, thought initially to be a UTI.
He is 84 years of age, fiercely independent (some may say stubborn) and has managed to avoid being hospitalised for all of his 84 years.
He was extremely unwell, slightly confused due to the infection, and although he would never admit it, very frightened.
The ward he was on was bright, cheerful, and clean
The staff I encountered at visiting times were friendly, approachable and most of all knowledgeable about Dad's current condition.
The treatment he received could not be faulted, and results from all diagnostics were quickly available.
Dad said the staff were all angels, and nothing was too much trouble for them
He also said the food he was served was good.
Fortunately Dad's conditon was quickly stabilised and he was allowed home after 5 days.
I have been a Health Care Professional for 30 years - not in this Trust I hasten to add - so am more than aware of how quick service users are to complain, yet sadly not so quick to praise good treatment
The staff on Ward 27 made my Dad's first ever stay in hospital not only bearable, but genuinely seemed to care for the patients in their care.
I'm afraid the only 2 staff whose names I recall are Christine, who was his named nurse during the day, and Adam who breezed in full of smiles and good cheer at 7. 30pm each evening.
But a big thanks to each and everyone of you - staff like you are what makes our NHS great and an organisation I am proud to be a member of - please keep up the good work
