About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

First time CT scan showed left lobe was small and needs further investigation refereed back to GP

Sound visit again sent by GP by Ambulance same test carried out no difference however the A&E Doctor told me that I should of had an MRI scan, which was recommend flowing the first scan which I understand kings read because there was no one qualified at Medway. I explained to the Doctor how ill I felt but the Doctor told me at first I would have to book my own MRI scan through my Doctor. When I said I was not happy to do that the doctor said they would speak to them the next day and they would get me an appointment within 2 days.

I Spoke to the MRI department latter as I had heard nothing, where I was told appointment was for mid July when I told them the doctor had promised an appointment within two days they were shocked and said the Doctor should not have said that, but because of the good work of your MRI department I now have a appointment.

I feel the doctor I saw in your department should not lie to patients

Thank you for your recent feedback following your visit to the emergency department.

I can only apologise for the lack of clarity around communicating what should have happened regarding the MRI scan. The doctor should have explained the process to you so you could have made a choice about what you wanted to do.

I understand you now have an appointment with the MRI department who will then inform your GP of the results and together you can discuss, if necessary, any care or treatment going forward.

Update posted by Chatham72 (the patient)

Hi thanks for your reply

However as the MRI scan was order by the A&E doctor I am now very confused who will tell me what the results are.

I am all so very unhappy I have to wait 2 weeks before getting any results as one off the things they will be looking for is a brain tumour which the A&E doctor said was very low risk of that but as I am sure you can understand is a very worrying time for myself and feel that Medway should not leave people waiting for 2 weeks like this.

We are very sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the care that you received when you came to the A&E department. Unfortunately, without your name we are unable to look into this further. Please can we ask you to contact our PALS team so that we can investigate.
