My wife is pregnant with our first child and we went for our first 12 weeks scan. The experience which should have been a memorable one for all the right reasons is now the worst experience ever due the attitude of the nurse who attended us. Both of us were soo looking forward to the experience as this is our first child and were very excited to get scanned but the nurse ruined it all. All due to the fact that the couple before us were late for their appointment by 40 mins and now the nurse was under pressure to recover her time (at least thats what nurse told us for her rushed and rude behaviour). "dont speak to me I am busy"; "dont touch the monitor, hosp it says it will break" though I never touched the monitor, I only pointed the possible baby's image to my wife (as we were not allowed to even whisper in the room). Lot of our friends and family told us to look out to hear baby's heartbeat on speakers in the room during scan. When nurse did not mention anything regarding heartbeat, nearing the end of scan I made a mistake of asking the question, can we listen to the baby heartbeat? Very rudely I was told "nhs does not allow baby heartbeat to be listened as it is dangerous and not good for baby's health. This practice is banned in NHS". Though not convinced but As I did not had any past experience therefore I had to take her word for it. I felt gutted when one of my colleague who is also first time pregnant and told me that they went for their first scan and what a feeling it is to hear your baby's heartbeat, it is sorrel. Couple of questions for hospital: Ques 1: Why it was our mistake if previous appointment did not keep to their time. We were on time, in fact we had to wait for our appointment? Ques 2: Does listening to baby's heartbeat during first scan at 12 weeks puts baby's health and life at risk? Ques 3: Is it the policy of NHS not allow sonographers let parents hear their baby's heartbeat as it puts babys health and life at risk? If it is then how come NHS hospitals in 20 miles radius have different policies? Hoping someone might pick it up.
"First 12 weeks scan- gutted and worst experience..."
