"My In-patient stay "

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Parkwood inpatient unit

(as the patient),

Being in hospital is a challenging experience, there are different dynamics every day. It can be a difficult and challenging situation. It is good to recognise that staff around are there to help, I have been in another hospital and that was not as good as Blackpool. I have acknowledged that it is a difficult situation.

The staff at the Bowland unit make a big difference, being very patient and tolerant; the doctors listen and tailor your care to personal needs and goals. I’ve been in hospital 3 times now, but I have now actually taken on board and accepted that I have a mental health problem. Medication wise, I’ve not done well in the past but I have noticed that I need to take it as it can change my world. Feeling generally a lot better this time around, mental health problem is not something you get and you can cure, it is a slow process to recovery. The people around me help me with that. As important as medication is, what is important about Blackpool hospital is the OT activities by the support staff, they treat you with respect and dignity

I am quite an optimistic person I would like to say that I am not afraid of discrimination in the future; I would like to raise awareness for mental health, I would like to help people go through that process. I am a Musician and artist; I would like to make an interactive ‘something’ for people to join together, to be together and go through the process together.
