"Overcoming a fear of the dentist"

My son (aged 15) hated our annual trip to the dentist. He became very anxious, and there was an enormous build up beforehand. Following a routine X-ray it was clear he needed some fairly major treatment: He was mortified and embarrassed. I was too, and couldn't get my head around why they were so bad! Sports drinks, and poor dental hygiene were the problem. Thankfully, he was referred to Locala in Todmorden Health Centre, to predominantly help him overcome his fear of the dentist, help educate him about looking after his teeth and to undertake treatment. The staff at Locala have been absolutely amazing, we can't thank them enough. He has gone from being a very anxious person, unable to manage his nerves to a young man who hasa confidently tackled some very major treatment, all over the course of 12 months. They took it very slowly, gently and helped him feel in control of the situation: consummate professionals, with a brilliant caring attitude.

He has walked out today, his final day of treatment with such confidence and an added " I'm never going to let my teeth get like that again" ...and I'm confident too that he won't.
