"Long waits at Southampton General Hospital Eye Casualty"

About: Southampton General Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I am pleased to report from the initial phone call to arriving at reception I was informed there was a delay, in some case FIVE HOURS.

In my case, from reception to treatment two hours, which considering the volume of people I have no complaint. However may I suggest that someone provides a VDU / Monitor on the wall telling all patients of delays and reasons why, and not just let them sit in the dark.

Especially when the car park charges are so high, as the patient next to me will have to pay for six hours parking through no fault of his.

Thank you for your feedback about your experience in the Emergency Department. We make every effort to see patients as soon as possible and according to their clinical need, but are aware that some do have to wait for much longer than we would wish. Thank you for your suggestion of a VDU which will be fed back to the department to consider. With regards to parking charges, all the monies raised from parking go back into the Trust and into patient care.
