"My mother's experience of a recent colonoscopy at Poole hospital"

About: Poole General Hospital / General surgery

(as a relative),

Mum was understandably concerned about going for a colonoscopy on Monday. She is in her 90s, very independent, but quite deaf. She planned her diet over the previous days with great care - no solids for the day and half before the procedure. She arranged for a friend to go with her.

I was delighted to receive the following e-mail from mum on her return from the hospital.

"Great! Back home at about 11.30. Nowhere near as bad as given on paper. Maybe I was just lucky with delightful nurses putting you at ease and giving both my friend and I cups of tea and digestive biscuits before we came home! My digestive was the best I have ever tasted!

New type gowns in hospital. Now no back openings, just overalls with an extra piece to put over your L shoulder. Mine slipped a bit and xx said I looked very sexy walking into the x-ray department with one bare shoulder!

Many thanks to all the staff at Poole hospital who made this such a positive experience."
