"Hip op N.E. surgery Centre"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

Had replacement hip op last week. Discharged after 2 nights, very impressed with standard of care all round. Everything very clean, own en-suite room, staff helpful and attentive. Only 2 criticisms are re the hospedia tv service which is an absolute rip-off and the signs to guide visitors to the NE Surgery Centre ( or should it be the Peter Smith Surgery centre? Why 2 names for the same place?). Is it not possible to have the main doors open at the week-end so visitors don't have to search for an open entrance and then find themselves in a maze of poorly-signed corridors? Otherwise NHS at Q.E. provided brilliant service.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write some kind words about our hospital. We'll be sure to pass these on the teams involved as they always appreciate receiving patient feedback. We would agree with your comments about the signage, and hopefully you will see a marked improvement to signage at the QE when our new emergency care centre opens in the Autumn. We will be changing the way we direct people around the hospital, creating coloured zones or corridors to make things simpler. The North East Surgery Centre was changed to the Peter Smith Surgery Centre in 2012 and it looks like some of our signage does not reflect this, we'll pass these comments on to our Estates team to action.
