About: Leicester General Hospital Leicester General Hospital Leicester LE5 4PW
After spending a night in the sleep lab I am certainly not in a hurry to go back for my results. On arrival, the lady who looked after me was very nice and went to the trouble to explain what she was doing (as I was being connected to about 30 wires) and which bit monitored what. This helped to put me at ease but unfortunately, the following day, I was made to feel extremely un-comfortable. There were many more staff around, coming in and out giving me instructions, yet no one explaining in detail what was going on. I was told to sit still / quiet which to me, I was doing but then I get 'told off' for fidgeting. I cannot sit still very easily but I did not stand or move around, I stayed sat on the bed as instructed. Maybe if the boss had explained to me the importance of sitting like a statue I may have been a little more cooperative but instead she decided to speak to me like a child and was almost shouting at me. It was so embarassing. She was so rude and should not, in my opinion, be in a position where she has to deal with people. She should stick to lab rats because that is exactly what she made me feel like. I get very anxious and her behaviour, not to mention the numerous people coming and going was of no help to me whatsoever. Most of the rest of the staff were very nice and one lady in particular was very supportive and understanding. On top of this, the entrance to the sleep lab is through maternity. For someone who has a phobia of pregnancy and child birth, this is the last place I wanted to see and just walking through this department made my heart race. The hospital is in need of a lick of paint and some brightening up.
