"A&E"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

Wythenshawe hospital has always been a savior to us. When my grandparents were unwell they were treated with great respect and cared for greatly. My Mum suffered burns on her legs during the day on friday. We know that A&E should only be used in extreme cases and it is not just available for everyone to use as and when they please. On friday night boils began to develop and we had to go to A&E as my mum was in tears from the extreme pain which was a very disturbing thing to see. Unfortunately our situation was not made any easier. We were greeted by the receptionist...extremely unfriendly. If they do not want to work at night and are going to transfer their grumpiness to the patients...don't work in a hospital and find another job where they do not need to show any compassion and care. We were not given any indication of a wait time but we continued to wait whilst my mum was in agony. After 4 hours we decided to leave and go to a private hospital. When I walked over to the receptionist to tell her we were leaving and she could cross us off the list she almost sniggered and made a comment along the lines of 'well it is only a minor injury so you can not expect to be seen any time soon'. Terrible service and a real disappointment given this hospital where I and my siblings were born and they have always been a hospital we have relied on greatly in the past. In my opinion, not a true reflection of other NHS services available.
