"Purley walk in centre - Sunday 8 June 2014"

About: Purley War Memorial Hospital

Went to this centre re. possible ear problem/infection which caused me to fall over and cut the side of my head (a minor injury). The receptionist decided I could not be seen as they thought the problems were caused by an infection. I was told the nursing staff could not even look at my ear and that I should go to Mayday A&E. This was neither an accident nor an emergency! The walk in centre at Edridge Road then also referred me to Mayday, stating that there were currently "hours of waiting time for patients" and that if I was there near closing time, which was likely, I would have to go to Mayday anyway. It was pointed out to me that night buses run to Mayday should I have to wait there for 4+ hours i.e. until well after midnight. I am in my 60's with impaired balance and now a head injury, albeit minor. I am also a retired NHS worker with a degree in Applied Biology. Why are receptionists turning people away. So much for walk in centres in the Croydon area - disgraceful.
