I owe my life to a chain of excellent NHS staff - I had a heart attack around lunch time on 14th May, whilst on the phone using the NHS 111 number. The woman at the other end of the line called an ambulance and gave me support until it arrived. The ambulance crew were expert, friendly, and I knew I was in safe hands. At the Royal Free, I was taken straight to surgery and had a stent inserted and was then taken to the coronary ward for a three day stay. Everybody, from the consultant, to the nurses, the ambulance crew, the 111 operator, and even the ladies who fed me, could not have been more helpful, caring and supportive. I am now recovering at home and, thinking back, I was incredibly lucky to have been diagnosed and treated within a few hours. All my questions were answered fully by whichever expert I asked. I saw how difficult other patients could be, when they were afraid and unwell, and the hospital staff could not have been more professional and caring. This was my first "proper" stay in a hospital and I was impressed by the expert visits and information left with me about after-care, exercise, and diet. The consultant was a star and took pains to give me plenty of time to ask him questions and for him to give me updates on my condition. Thank you all.
