My father had had a cough for a long time which he could not get rid of. He had given up smoking 10 years previously. He went to the local GP on a number of occasions and was finally sent to the hospital to have an x-ray, and they found a shadow on his lung.
He had to go back to hospital to see the consultant. The consultant decided he needed a scan and then a camera into his lungs to find out what was going on. This was all over a number of months and of course Dad was worried sick. He cares for my mum who has MS and is permanently in a wheelchair and unable to do anything for herself.
After he had the camera down into his lungs they told him there was nothing there, but he would have to go back to see the consultant for the results of the brushing that was taken from his lungs.
Today he had a phone call from a nurse at the hospital who asked if he would like to go back and have the camera down into his lungs again. Dad asked if something was wrong. "Oh no" he was told, "we just thought you might like to come back and have the same procedure repeated."
What was she thinking of? My father has been upset all day and now is worried sick that when he gets to see the consultant again in a week that there will be something to worry about.
Why do they think it's alright to scare an old man half to death?
