As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I started writing out my birth plan. I was so sure of what I wanted and didn't want. My plan was to have a drug free waterbirth at Montrose Infirmary, with little intervention.
So, of course, I had the exact opposite of what I planned, but now, I'm incredibly thankful my son was born at Ninewells. I was induced and went into labour five hours later, but after 26 hours I was still in labour and only 7 cm dilated.
At no point was I stressed or worried, as I knew I was in great hands. My midwives were absolutely wonderful. I wish I could thank them again. One midwife has been a midwife 16 years, but she still really cares and obviously loves her job and gives her patients the best of care. The delivery room was clean and comfortable. I was briefed the entire time on what was happening, how I was progressing etc.
Once in theatre, again, the staff were wonderful. The anaesthetist put me at great ease and I knew the surgeon would do an excellent job (she did).
I recovered in Ward 38 for a few days, and although busy, I got plenty of assistance breastfeeding, and lots of valuable information on being a new mum.
Fantastic hospital and staff!
