"Most times I've been to this ..."

About: Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Most times I've been to this hospital, the staff have been friendly and polite.

The hospital is usually always clean.

What could be improved

I still have not been able to see the one spinal disorders consultant that my GP referred me to due to unknown reasons apart from being told by that consultant's physiotherapist that he did not want to see me but there was no given reason for why he did not want to see me. I feel that this is totally unacceptable and makes me feel like an insignificant patient and that this consultant isn't bothered about his patients. My GP still wants me to see this consultant and isn't happy with the fact I was ignored by this consultant.

The problem I have had is with continuity of care as I saw one spine consultant (not the one that did not want to see me for reasons unknown) and am awaiting to see him for the results of my MRIs but find out I am now under the care of a different spine consultant. The previous consultant never mentioned my care would be transferred to a different spine consultant. I feel that I now have to start all over again due to this.

The other thing I feel is that this one particular spinal disorders consultant sent me onto another different spinal disorders consultant as he was still not interested in seeing me and has still not provided me with a reason as to why he did not want to see me which I find appalling to say the least.

I am also fed up of being told that my spine looks great when clearly the radiologists have stated what they already found. They have noted disc degeneration which is unusual for a person of my young age (20s) with an annular bulge and still the spinal consultant seems to think that it's good! Why do I have pain? All I want is a clear and logical answer as to why I have this back and leg pain with numbness and bladder problems. It seems like something is going on yet they don't know what is wrong with my spine? I told them about my bladder which has come on since my spine and leg problems and again, doesn't seem to know why I have this bladder problem! I know it could be linked to my spine and an emergency.

Anything else?

It would be good to know what treatments are available at this hospital if any as my spinal disorders consultant has not even mentioned any treatments. Though he doesn't know why my spine is so painful which still seems odd as the radiologists have found things that would clearly explain why it is so painful.

None of it makes any sense and I feel like I am getting nowhere and am still at square one in finding the cause and getting the right treatment.

I know that there is something wrong with my spine and am determined to find the right consultants and the right treatment at the end of the day and am currently looking for other consultants that may be able to actually help me rather than just saying my spine looks great when clearly it's not!

I certainly would not recommend this hospital if you have got a spinal disorder (such as degenerated discs or annular bulges) as they cannot find out what it is or treat it anyway. Waste of time in my opinion.
