Having gone to the Hospital with Kidney Stones, I was released with a prescription a told to wait for the stone to pass. My suggestion is to issue patients, leaflets on their particular problems together with Self Help information, as I was totally unprepared for the bouts of severe pain, and wasn't aware that it was possible to take other types of medication in order to relieve the pain. Even if advice is given at the time by a doctor, it is often not taken in, or forgotten.
