"The surgeons appeared to have ..."

About: Derriford Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The surgeons appeared to have done a good job.

The houseman was kind to my husband

My husband says the food was fine

What could be improved

My husband was a patient for brain surgery.

The switchboard staff sounded bored and curt everytime I had to telephone,-no greeting and just about bothering to say the name of the hospital .

The ward was extremely cluttered ,scruffy, and

smelly,it looked unhygienic, visitor hand rub was not easy to find.

I didnt see any staff wash hands.

Staff did not speak..only to each other behind the nursing station.

There was no written indication by the bed,of who my husbands consultant was,- we had to ask.

The SHO did not know on day 3 whether my husband had been admitted from home or R D and E.

The SHO talked to colleagues about my husband "over his head"

My husband was asked on day 2 if he normally

used a stick to mobilise [Are any admission notes made?]

He was twice offered drinks , in my presence, when nil by mouth.

TED stockings were applied with no explantion.

My husband was moved to another ward on day 3 with no explanation

Anything else?

The car parking was dreadful

On one occasion the patient next to my husband was being given intimate care in full view of my husband and I was allowed to enter the area..I withdrew of course.

The ladies loo in hospital main entrance area was awful
