"urology general"

About: Leicester General Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Had an urgent booked appointment due to blood in urine. Received a call to attend an appointment for x-ray ultrasound. Went to LRI, told should be Glenfield. They did my ultrasound. Then went to Glenfield, who told me my appointment was at the General. Did my x-ray, but they asked me didn't LRI do it?

Went for my camera at urology, could not understand understudy consultant, she did not tell me much. Saw one of the nurses? Who explained two complex cysts were found and I needed bloods and an urgent ct scan.

Went to have bloods taken, 25 people waiting. Only one person taking blood! Went to my local hospital and had my bloods took. As it took the person at general to do 4 people in an hour.

Went for ct scan and said they could not do it as I was under 55 and not steralised, ct has to be done in a certain time after a period. In the end they felt sorry for me, did a pregnancy test and signed a disclaimer. Ct done.

Spoke to consultant secretary as I wanted to know if I could go to my doctors for a tonic, as tired etc. Explained about urgent appointment she booked me one for six weeks later. No letter received a week later, had tried to ring secretary over two days and there was no answer machine, nothing. Also outpatients had no appointment on their system? Spent 30 minutes on phone trying to get someone to help me. Finally got ward 26a, they informed me an appointment booked but a week later than secretary's date. Explained what had been going on, appointment changed to date I was given. But why was this not booked in the first place? So for the next six weeks do not know what is happening. At least blood came back showing kidney work in. Message from sectary from consultant. Even my doctor tried to ring and could not get through....

Dear uronew,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments.

From confusion over the x-ray ultrasound location to mix-ups over your appointment, you have clearly had a very frustrating experience and we’re very sorry about that.

It’s difficult to explain why this happened but it sounds like there has been had been poor communication throughout. We can investigate further if you would like – we’d be very happy to. If so, please email communications@uhl-tr.nhs.uk, outlining your concerns along with your name, address, date of birth and the name of your consultant (if you know it).

Not that you should have to be chasing us, but if it helps the numbers for ward 26 at the General are 0116 258 4371 and 0116 258 4623.

Again we are sorry for your experience at Leicester’s Hospitals and wish you well.

Sincerely

Communications Team
