I am very grateful to the staff of Sunderland Royal Hospital. In January of this year I visited Sunderland to stay with my mother, who lives in Sunderland, and also to attend a business meeting. During my visit I was taken ill and attended the Sunderland Royal Accident & Emergency Department. I was seen very quickly and it was quickly confirmed that I had two infections that required immediate treatment. A number of tests were carried out, with impressive speed, and I was admitted as an in-patient. I spent five days in the hospital during which time I received a very high standard of care. I was advised that I needed surgery to remove my gall bladder and that if I wished I could be transferred back to Hertfordshire. However, I have not had the best of experiences with hospitals close to my home and I was concerned that there would be a delay in my treatment if I transferred. Also, I was very impressed by the way in which I had been treated in Sunderland Royal. I decided to continue my treatment at the hospital. In the event this turned out to be a sensible decision because I had to be re-admitted to Sunderland Royal two weeks later with a re-occurrence of the infection. On this occasion I stayed in the hospital for a further six days during which time an extensive series of tests/scans were carried out. I was discharged and told that an operation would be booked six weeks from the date of my discharge. In the event it was slightly longer than six weeks but I was happy to stay in Sunderland and wait for the surgery. After I arrived at the Surgical Day Case Unit I was visited by my consultant and members of his team, who carefully explained the procedure I would undergo. The operation went well and I was well looked after in the Day Unit. I have made an excellent recovery since. I cannot thank the nurses, consultant and his team enough for providing me with excellent treatment and for helping me through a difficult time.
"Excellent Treatment"
