"Children's a&e"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

This is the second time I have had to attend A&e in a matter of weeks - this time with my other son! We arrived around 1800 which meant we were seen by the day time staff. What a completely different experience to the staff we had before! The nurse in charge was bossy And very abrupt with patients, she also appeared a little patronising!! It wasn't too busy but the Drs were very slow - they seemed to sit around chatting a lot - I'm sure they were working but from the conversations we heard it did not sound like it!! When the night team came on it was a completely different atmosphere!! All three nurses were lovely!! So kind, caring and friendly!! I was ecstatic to see the same nurse in charge as we had before when my other son was unwell. She is an excellent nurse and you can tell she loves her job rather than delegating to her juniors. Previously I had written to PALS to personally thank both nurses involved in our care, I was extremely disappointed to hear they had not received this feedback - however as a department were all given feedback from the website. I myself work in management and believe if you want your staff to continue to work hard, you must give them credit were credit is due! Thank you so much to the night team on 3.6.14. You are excellent nurses and this should be recognised!!

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback regarding your 2nd visit to our Children's A&E department. I am sorry that your experience with the day shift team of nurses and doctors was so different to the experience with the night shift. I am also sorry that your feedback to the individual nurses had not been given after your previous visit. I will make sure this is completed today, and understand why it had not been passed on to make sure this does not happen again. I completely agree with you that we should recognise and feedback where our staff do well, so I am disappointed too. I will pass your comments onto James Rolfe and Jo Hawkes, Lead Nurses for A&E, and Dr Ticehurst, Clinical Lead to share with both the day and night shift staff on 3.6.14. I hope your son is recovering well. Kind Regards Claire Marshall Associate Director of Patient Experience and Public Involvement
